The purpose of this Coaching Strategy for MTL is to demonstrate the TDA’s vision for the role of the MTL school-based coach. The vision for the coach builds on the information provided in the National Framework for MTL, and aims to provide all stakeholders, including schools and HEIs working together as MTL Providers, and MTL participants with an understanding of how the school-based coach working alongside the HEI tutor will support the delivery of the MTL programme.

These guidelines should be read in conjunction with the MTL Coaching Strategy and Training Framework and are intended to assist in the development of training approaches, to support headteachers in identifying coaches and to provide coaches with a route through their training and development.

This Framework has been developed following consultation with stakeholders. It aims to give MTL participants, school-based coaches, HEI tutors, local authorities and headteachers confidence about the national coherence and consistency of the programmes of preparation and support for MTL school based coaches that will be developed by MTL Providers in partnership with local authority (LA) induction coordinators.

The Training Needs Analysis provides an indication of the knowledge and skills which the MTL Coach will need for Phases one and two. This will help you decide whether you need to attend the additional training sessions which follow the initial day’s training.
